Mass I: In Advent

On Saturdays the Glória is recited or sung.

Collect:

O God, who didst will that Thy Word should take flesh, at the message of an angel, in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grant to us Thy supplicants, that we who believe her to be truly the Mother of God may be helped by her intercession with Thee.

2. Commemoration of the Feria   3.of the Holy Ghost

Epistle: Isaias vii: 10-15

A reading from the prophet Isaias.
In those days, the Lord spoke to Achaz, saying, "Ask thee a sign of the Lord, thy God, either unto the depth of hell, or unto the height above. And Achaz said, "I will not ask, and I will not tempt the Lord." And he said, "Hear ye therefore, O house of David: Is it a small thing for you to be grievous to men, that you are also grievous to My God also? Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel. He shall eat butter and honey, that he may know to refuse the evil, and to choose the good."

Gradual: Ps. xxxiii: 7 et 3-4

Lift up your gates, O ye princes, be ye lifted up, O eternal gates, and the King of Glory shall enter in. Who shall ascend unto the mountain of the Lord, or who shall stand in His holy place? The innocent in hands, and the clean of heart.
Allelúia, allelúia. [Luke i: 28] Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women. Allelúia.

Gospel: Luke i: 26-38.

†    The continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
At that time, the Angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, unto a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the Angel, having entered, said unto her, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women." Who, having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this might be. And the Angel said to her, "Fear not Mary, for thou hast found grace with God. Behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus. He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the most High, and the Lord shall give Him the throne of David His father; and He shall reign in the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there shall be no end." And Mary said unto the Angel, "How shall this be done, because I know not man?" And the Angel answering, said to her, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And, therefore, the Holy that shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren; because nothing shall be impossible with God." And Mary said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done to me according to thy word."

Offertory: Luke i: 28,42

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

Epistle: Titus iii: 4-7

A reading from the Epistle of blessed Paul the Apostle to Titus.
Beloved: When the goodness and kindness of God our Savior appeared, not by reason of good works that we did ourselves, but according to His mercy, He saved us through the bath of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Ghost; whom He has abundantly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ or Savior, in order that, justified by His grace, we may be heirs in the hope of life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Gradual: Ps. xliv: 3

Thou art beautiful above the sons of men. Grace is poured abroad in thy lips. My heart has uttered a good word; I speak my works to the King.

Tract (After Septuagesima):

Gospel: Luke ii 15-20

†     The continuation of the holy Gospel according to Luke.
At that time, the shepherds were saying to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing which has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." So they went with haste, and they found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in the manger. And when they had seen they understood what had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard marveled at the things told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept in mind all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken to them.
