Additional Prayers for Masses of the
Season and During Octaves If the Mass is of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the prayers of the Holy Ghost (below) are recited for the second set of prayers. Second Collect: Of the Blessed Virgin Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord God, to us Thy servants, that we may evermore enjoy health of mind and body, and by the glorious intercession of blessed Mary ever Virgin be delivered from present sorrow and obtain everlasting happiness. Third Collect: Against the Persecutors of the Church Graciously accept the prayers of Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that, overcoming all hostility and error, She may serve Thee in safety and freedom. or Third Collect: For the Pope O God, the Shepherd and Ruler of all the faithful, look favorably upon Thy servant N., whom Thou hast been pleased to appoint as shepherd over Thy Church, grant we beseech Thee, that by word and example, he may edify those over whom he is placed, and together with the flock entrusted to his care, may attain everlasting life. Second Secret: Of the Blessed Virgin Through Thy clemency, O Lord, and by the intercession of blessed Mary ever Virgin, may this offering avail unto our prosperity and peace, now and for evermore. Third Secret: Against the Persecutors of the Church Protect us, we beseech Thee, O Lord, who assist at Thy mysteries, that holding fast to things divine, we may serve Thee both in body and soul. or Third Secret: For the Pope Be appeased, we beseech Thee, O Lord, by our peace-offerings, and by Thy constant protection, guide Thy servant N., whom Thou hast been pleased to appoint as shepherd over Thy Church. Second Postcommunion: Of the Blessed Virgin Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that having received these helps unto salvation we may everywhere be protected by the patronage of blessed Mary ever Virgin, in veneration of whom we have offered this sacrifice to Thy majesty. Third Postcommunion: Against the Persecutors of the Church We beseech Thee, O Lord our God, that Thou wouldst not allow to be exposed to human perils, those whom Thou hast been pleased to make sharers of these divine mysteries. or Third Postcommunion: For the Pope We beseech Thee, O Lord, that the reception of this divine sacrament, may protect us and always save and defend Thy servant N., whom Thou hast been pleased to appoint as shepherd over Thy Church, together with the flock entrusted to him. In Masses of the Blessed Virgin, the prayers of the Holy Ghost replace those of our Lady:
