Blessing of Wine
On the feast of Saint John the Evangelist, having completed the principal Mass; after the last Gospel, the priest retains all the vestments except the maniple. Wine offered by the people in commemoration and honor of Saint John, who was able to drink venom without harm, is blessed in this manner: V. Our help † is in the name of the Lord. R. Who made heaven and earth. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. R. And let my cry come unto Thee. V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. [Priest:] Let us pray. Bless, † O Lord, Thy creation which we have been given to drink: that it may be a health giving remedy to all who receive it. Grant, through the invocation of Thy holy name, that all who taste of it be healed in body and soul; and what they have given Thee, they may receive abundantly in return. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. And may the blessing of almighty God, the Father, † the Son, † and the Holy Ghost † descend upon this wine of Thy creation -- and those who drink of it -- and remain forever. [All:] Amen
