This
Mass formulary was composed at the order of the Supreme Pontiff, Clement VI,
who reigned at Avignon (r. 1342-1352) during the first iteration of the bubonic
plague (1348-1350). [Musical
note]
This Votive Mass remains in the Tridentine Missale Romanum .

septuagínta mília virórum. Cumque extendísset manum suam Angelus Dómini
super Jerúsalem, ut dispérderet eam, misértus est Dóminus super afflictióne,
et ait Angelo percutiénti pópulum: Súfficit; nunc cóntine manum tuam. Erat
autem Angelus Dómini juxta arcam Aréuna Jebusǽi. Dixítque David ad Dóminum,
cum vidísset Angelum cædéntem pópulum: Ego sum, qui peccávi, ego iníque egi:

In
those days, the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel, from the morning unto
the time appointed, and there died of the people from Dan to Bersabee
seventy thousand men. And when the angel of the Lord had stretched out his
hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord had pity on the affliction, and
said to the angel that slew the people:
“It is enough:
now hold thy hand.”
And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Areuna the Jebusite.
And David said to the Lord, when he saw the angel striking the people:
“It is I;
I am he that have sinned, I have done wickedly: these that are the sheep,
what have they done? let thy hand, I beseech thee, be turned against me, and
against my father's house.”
And Gad came to David that day, and said:
“Go up, and
build an altar to the Lord in the threshing floor of Areuna the Jebusite.”
And David went up according to the word of Gad which the Lord had commanded
him. And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered
holocausts and peace offerings: and the Lord became merciful to the land,
and the plague was stayed from Israel.

when the sun was down, all they that had any sick with divers diseases,
brought them to him. But he laying his hands on every one of them, healed
them. And devils went out from many, crying out and saying: Thou art
the Son of God. And rebuking them he suffered them not to speak, for they
knew that he was Christ. And when it was day, going out he went into a
desert place, and the multitudes sought him, and came unto him: and they
stayed him that he should not depart from them. To whom he said: To
other cities also I must preach the kingdom of God: for therefore am I sent.
