Lent
begins on February 25th, Ash Wednesday. As noted the weekdays
(Ferials) of Lent are traditionally observed with the Lenten Fast; one
full meal and two collations. Days of abstinence are marked with a
fish. All of the days of Lent should be observed with extra
prayer, meditation, spiritual reading, and good works.
§ A plenary
indulgence is granted under the usual conditions on each Friday of Lent
and Passiontide to those who after Holy Communion piously recite the
prayer before a crucifix, "Look down upon me, good and gentle
Jesus"; on other days of the year the indulgence is partial.

*Easter
Week, April 11-17, is the octave of Easter, a privileged octave of the
first order. The proper Mass given in the Missal is said on each
day, with the Credo, Preface of Easter, and a proper Communicántes
and Hanc ígitur. "Ite, missa est, allelúja,
allelúja" and "Deo grátias, allelúja,
allelúja" replace the "Benedicámus
Dómino" of Lent.
Catholics are
required to Confess their serious sins and receive Holy Communion at
least once between the First Sunday of Lent and Trinity Sunday. |
